MANAGER CARL GIVES HIS THOUGHTS ON THIS SEASON

Bob Ryan9 Apr 2020 - 12:22

Manager Carl Jarrett gives his thoughts on the Season and thanks the Club's Supporters.

REVIEW OF THIS SEASON.

Going in to the new season my ambition has never changed and we wanted to win this league and get promoted.
I had a busy summer making some great signings in what we knew would be a testing and long season, chairman Mark really backed me to pull in what we thought we needed to achieve promotion.
We welcomed Jack Norton,Kev Burgess,Lewi Maloney,Louie Johnston, Steva, Matty Garbutt to a great squad.
Pre -season was hard, and like all clubs we had lads away on holidays so was a tough time preparing for the start of season. Clarky done a great job with what we had available to get them in shape and ready.
We started at home to City of Liverpool and had a great win against I thought at the time would be right up there this season. We followed that with a game at a club who turned us over twice last year Brighouse and got a great win.
After that game we went until October 19th before we got beat in the league, and this was a brilliant start for us sitting high in the league. We then had a few hit and miss results which seen us drop off as the pack in front were picking up a lot of wins.
After a lot of games were cancelled through bad weather and lads picking up injuries at key times, we struggled in some games to put our full strength squad out game after game, which always affects the team, after the games got back to being played we had a lot of games in hand on the teams around us.
We picked up some big wins at the right time to push us back in the playoffs, and we looked strong as a team. As the season was going into March I had injuries to key players, but lads who came in stepped it up and I was very happy.
When we beat Pontefract at home I really thought we would go most the season not getting beat and push into 2nd or 3rd at least. The 3 lads who are out were due back, and I think we looked the strongest we had all season after bringing Smithy,Arran and Priestly in to finish the job off.

Then we obviously all know what happened after the Runcorn win and we are all devastated as a Team and Club that football got cancelled as I do believe we had a great chance to finish the job off and achieve promotion.

But as we all know this is football and the virus that has rocked the world is not to be taken lightly I honestly thought the FA would make this decision for everyone's safety.

I wont be stopping in preparation for next season whenever that starts to try to make us stronger again.

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped out with everything and fans that have travelled all over and spent their hard earned money to watch this club. You have been brilliant.

I would like to mention my thoughts are with long term supporter Harry Oldfield's family after his passing last week a true gent and a Loyal Fan.

I would also like to thank those who have so far Donated so far to the ALL MARSKE UNITED TOGETHER FUND. It shows great loyalty from supporters to the Club. I look forward to your continued support to this appeal and to the team.

See you all next season

Cheers Carl
