Marske United is delighted to announce the appointment of Craig Skelton and Simon Kasonali as our new First Team Managers for the 2024/25 season.

We are also pleased to confirm the pair will be joined in the Mount Pleasant dugout by Nicky Ward, who will continue in his role as First Team Assistant Manager for another season having formed part of the last five Marske United management teams.

Longstanding supporters will be familiar with Kas and Skelly from their playing days at Mount Pleasant with Kas sitting second on the Seasiders all-time appearance list with 575 games in yellow and 106 goals during our rise from the Wearside League.

Skelly meanwhile has had three separate spells at Marske United during his career ,with both helping us reach the FA Vase Quarter Finals in 08/09.

As a management duo, they are unbeaten this season with Redcar Newmarket (formally known as Darlington United Newmarket) and chasing a second successive North Riding League Premier League title in addition to their Yorkshire Shield cup win last season.

Supporters can watch Kas & Skelly in action at Mount Pleasant on Tuesday night when top of the table Newmarket take on second place Grangetown Boys Club in the battle for the North Riding League Premier Division title.

Entry is free and the ground will be open from 6.30 with kick-off at 7.30. Hot food will be available at the Kabin with the clubhouse bar open as well.

Speaking about their appointment Skelly said: “It’s fantastic to be here, at such a great club.

“Having played non-league football for most of my career, including three good spells at Marske under Burto, Rilo and Cappy in the dugout, I went into management with my good friend Kas.

“We’ve took Redcar Newmarket from a mid-table team to the league and cup double last season and currently sit top of the league going into final stages of this season as well.

“It will be great to see everyone on Tuesday night and hopefully give everyone a taste of what is to potentially come”

“We are both really delighted to get this opportunity to manage Marske United,” Kas added.

“I spent the majority of my career here, from playing as a boy to a man. So many great memories and hopefully we can make some more.

“I’m second on the all-time list. And who knows…I might get myself on in the last minute of each game to take the all-time record of 609 from Mike Kinnear!” Kas joked.

“Again to go into management with one of your best mates there is nothing better and the success we have had starting out has been great and hopefully we can continue that at Marske.

“Because we recognise and respect the great history of the club and what has come before us. The fantastic success under Carl in recent years and the uphill battle that Spike and Clarky faced this season, achieving good results despite the off-field issues and problems.

“But now all that is behind us, and we can look ahead as a club to this next chapter with a fresh start and solid platform to rebuild and go forward.

Speaking about their philosophy Skelly said “We want to take Marske United back to its roots, and we’ll draw upon our own experiences as well”

“When we were playing here under Burto, we played for the badge and the shirt and more importantly for the manager, and that’s the message we are going to try and instill into the squad that we will assemble here.

“And hopefully the players will buy into that and play for myself, Kas and Wardy, who’s staying onboard as Assistant Manager, which is great.

“He’s Mr Marske United and having that continuity and experience is a real benefit. We are all really excited and looking forward to it!”
