Marske United are delighted to sign 24-year-old ex-Newcastle United shot stopper Nathan Harker.

Standing at 6ft 4, Nathan started his career at Newcastle United’s academy and has also played for Scarborough Athletic and Bedlington Terriers before joining Whickham.

Speaking on Nathan's arrival Marske United manager Carl Jarrett said: "Nathan is a top keeper which will be vital to our run in."

"He's a great lad as well which is important around the club really looking forward to working with him after coming highly recommended"

The talented goalkeeper drew plaudits in 2019 for his shot stopping exploits in Newcastle’s U23 side

That season he saved 3 penalties against Reading’s development team in a thrilling semi-final shoot-out that helped the Geordies to secure a place in the play-off final for Premier League 2.

His saves were not just limited to the league ,as that season he also helped the team reach the final of the Premier League Cup as well.

Working under Rafa Benitez, the young keeper found himself called up to the senior side and on the bench against Blackburn Rovers in the third round of the FA Cup just 16 months before he was released.

After Newcastle, Harker had trial spells with Burnley, Hartlepool, Hull, and Sunderland. He then found his feet in non-league football with a short stint at Scarborough Athletic before going on to re-stablishing himself at Bedlington Terrriers.

His fine form saw him snapped up by Whickham. This season they have only conceded 38 goals in 29 games, the joint second best defensive record in the Northern League Division 1 alongside Bishop Auckland.

While off the pitch Nathan has developed his coaching skills working with Darlington’s academy players.

In 2021 Nathan took part in the Great North Run raising money for Dragon Fly who support young cancer patients with limited time, helping them and their families make each moment matter.

We would like to wish Nathan a massive warm welcome to the club!
